How Do I Do A System Restore

“How do I do a system restore?”  I've had to ask it a couple different times, have you?  If you are on the internet and typing “how do I do a system restore” in Google, you may have come across this article.  In order to do a system restore, you're going to have to know what system you're using to begin with.  For the sake of not writing a 4000 word article, I'm going to focus on two of Microsoft's newest systems, Windows 7 and Vista and to how to use their system restore functions.

If you are a Vista or a Windows 7 user then you should know that both programs have a feature called “System Restore”.  The System Restore feature will automatically back up the system and registry files as soon as you put in new drivers or software.  A lot of the times when you install certain software, if will make your computer run unbelievably slow.  If this happens, you can use the system restore feature on Vista or Windows 7 and it won't remove Vista or Windows 7 from your computer when you restore.

How Do I Do A System Restore

For Windows 7, you have two different ways to use system restore.  I guess I should clarify and say there are places you can use the feature.  You can go to the start menu and enter “restore “into the search box or you can type “rstrui”.  If you type in “restore” you will see a system restore right at the top of your search box.  With the other, a screen will come up that will let you go back to your last restore point or you can click on a different restore point and choose to reset everything back to it.

For example, let's say that you bought some new software.  The first software that you bought was exactly what you wanted and you're very happy about it.  Now you decided to install different software a couple of months later and it is horribly slow and you hate it.  You can choose a restore point on Windows 7 and it will take you back to your original awesome software that you install a couple of months ago.  Get it?  Good.  Just a little side note here, be sure to run your System Restore from safe mode.  If something goes wrong, safe mode will give you the option to reboot.

Hopefully this has helped and you aren't still searching “How do I do a system restore.”  If you are, then good luck!
